Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on our fleet of diesel-powered heavy machinery. The ideal candidate is an expert troubleshooter with a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. A commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality workmanship is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection and diagnostics: Inspect and use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of malfunctions in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical and mechanical components.
  • Repairs and overhauls: Perform advanced repairs, component overhauls, and replacements on engines, transmissions, drivelines, brake systems, and other heavy equipment systems.
  • Preventative maintenance: Conduct routine and scheduled preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system checks, to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize downtime.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete work orders, maintenance reports, and parts requisitions to maintain detailed and organized records of all service and repair activities.
  • Field service: Respond to and perform emergency repairs on heavy equipment at various job sites as needed.
  • Safety and shop upkeep: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, maintain a clean and organized work area, and properly handle the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with the operations team to prioritize repairs and ensure equipment is back in service as quickly as possible.

Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in diesel engine diagnostics, maintenance, and repair, preferably with heavy construction, forestry, or agricultural equipment.
  • Technical expertise: Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and the use of modern diagnostic software and tools.
  • Certifications: ASE Certification(s) in Medium-Heavy Truck or other relevant areas are preferred.
  • Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license, and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is often preferred or required.
  • Physical stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions, including lifting heavy equipment and parts.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and accurately document work performed.
  • Own tools: Must have a basic set of mechanic’s tools; specialized tools may be provided.
